As a Police Officer, I’m Grateful to Be A “One Dollar” Apologist (and You Should Be Too)

As I get older, I’ve rediscovered the ancient truth uttered through King Solomon:

“There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven – A time to give birth, and a time to die; A time to plant, and a time to uproot what is planted. A time to kill, and a time to heal; A time to tear down, and a time to build up. A time to weep, and a time to laugh; A time to mourn, and a time to dance. A time to throw stones, and a time to gather stones; A time to embrace, and a time to shun embracing. A time to search, and a time to give up as lost; A time to keep, and a time to throw away. A time to tear apart, and a time to sew together; A time to be silent, and a time to speak. A time to love, and a time to hate; A time for war, and a time for peace. What profit is there to the worker from that in which he toils? I have seen the task which God has given the sons of men with which to occupy themselves.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-10)

I can still remember that season when I was wrapping up a full-time career in Law Enforcement and beginning to experience liberty to serve my community and church more robustly. Maybe you’re in a similar situation, about to step out of your role as a police officer and wondering what awaits you on the other side.

I often say its incredibly important each of us use what God has given us to make a case for Christianity in a world that is increasingly secular. All of us are called to be apologists (1Peter 3:15); no one gets off the hook when it comes to this responsibility and challenge. Even police officers.

We often dream about utilizing one of the many gifted “all-stars” of Christian apologetics or theology to start a revival at our church or community, but God wants to use YOU as part of His army of case makers. Yes, there are many “million dollar” apologists that are well known and oft-requested. But the world needs a million “one dollar” apologists even more than it needs one more “million dollar” apologist.

You and I have experiences and knowledge that can be used to advance the cause of Christian Case Making. We simply need to take some time to prepare, be willing to accept the challenge and be bold enough to get in the game.

If you’re ready to help others understand the truth of Christianity, I’m glad to be your partner. Together we are a few dollars closer to the goal.
